Job summary
As a Security Engineering Manager, you will be part of global organization responsible for leading a team of security engineers, ensuring the security challenges are properly understood and prioritized. You will be working with other product and security teams to identify problems for your larger team to solve. You will provide the deep technical expertise to root out problems that others would miss and validate customers security assumptions. Your expertise will also be leveraged to identify innovate solutions that raise the bar for the industry. The teams building the solutions will also depend on you to establish the security bar. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the definition, vision, and development of security charter within the Ring engineering organization.
Key job responsibilities
Build a team of security engineers and lead them to develop internal tools, applications and services that identify and monitor security/compliance-relevant attributes of key infrastructure and business functions. You will work with senior security and compliance leaders to define the strategy and roadmap for scaling assessments of Ring services and expanding our ability to continuously monitor key security functions. You will have autonomy over how your team operates while maintaining a high standard for engineering excellence.
Manage the day-to-day activities of engineering teams within an Agile/Scrum environment
Work with team members to investigate security approaches, model threats and risks for a large, complex system.
Report on status of development, quality, security operations and system performance to technical and business stakeholders
Help to improve engineering processes and tools to increase organiztion effectiveness
Work with extraordinary talent and have the opportunity to hire and shape the team to best execute on the security roadmap.
Mentor and coach security engineers in order to improve their skills, and make them more effective.
The ideal candidate:
Has a strong foundation in software development, design patterns, and cloud computing
Has experience working with large scale cloud systems, understanding how to architect with security and privacy from ground up.
Is highly effective and thrives in a dynamic environment with multiple, changing priorities
Knows what is important when shipping products to customers and has been through the process from start to finish
Manages a team of engineers and insists on higher standards, clear documentation, and delivers high quality work on tight schedules.

You will work across teams to model threats and identify critical exploits, and raise the security bar of our applications & services by advocating and driving security best practices, engineering excellence and security readiness. About the team
These teams use a diverse set of AWS technologies including: S3, DynamoDB, SQS, Kinesis, API Gateway, Cloudwatch, Elastic Search, Lambda, Cloud Auth, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, along with Amazon’s standard Builder Hub Tools. Frontends are build using JavaScript and React. The team consists of a combination of backend, full-stack, and front end developers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
7+ years of relevant engineering experience building successful production software systems.
3+ years of people management experience, managing security engineers
Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Experience with OO design/development skills
Experience with REST services architecture
Previous experience developing in a modern programming languages (Java, Go, C/C++, Python)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, with a solid grounding in Computer Science fundamentals
10+ years of experience doing hand-on software development
Several years experience in a security engineering management role or a senior engineering team lead role.
Deep understanding of cloud software development in a team and a track record of shipping software on time
Experience working with AWS services (S3, CloudFormation, DynamoDB, EC2, CloudWatch, Kinesis, SQS, etc…)
Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs
Excellence in technical communication with peers and remote teams, both technical and non-technical
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing and operations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
